FAST Sponsorship and Support

Manhattan Mini Storage is proud to support FAST and their mission to find a cure for Angelman syndrome. As a sponsor, Manhattan Mini Storage is helping to amplify awareness and raise critical funds for this life-changing research. Supporting families and communities is at the heart of our mission, and we stand with those affected by AS in the fight for a cure. Together, we can accelerate the path to a cure.
In 2008, Paula M. Evans founded FAST (Foundation for Angelman Syndrome Therapeutics) after receiving the devastating news that there was no hope for her daughter, who had been diagnosed with Angelman syndrome (AS). Determined to change the narrative, Evans assembled an all-volunteer board of fellow AS parents and leading medical professionals, united by one goal: to find a cure for AS and related neurogenetic disorders through rigorous research and clinical trials.
Angelman syndrome is a rare neurogenetic condition that affects approximately one in every 15,000 people—around 500,000 individuals globally. It typically results in balance and motor coordination challenges, severe seizures, and developmental impairments. Many individuals with AS are nonverbal, some are unable to walk, and sleep disturbances are common and often difficult to manage.
AS exists on a spectrum, meaning that symptoms and behaviors can vary significantly from person to person. However, many individuals share distinct characteristics, including a consistently happy demeanor, frequent laughter and smiles, and a strong love for water-based activities.
Those living with AS require 24/7 care and are unable to live independently. Despite these challenges, researchers believe that Angelman syndrome holds the greatest potential for a cure among neurogenetic disorders—and FAST is leading the way. As the organization proudly declares on its website: “A cure is no longer a matter of if, but when.”
FAST is now the largest non-governmental funder of Angelman syndrome research worldwide, expanding its impact from the United States to Australia, Canada, the UK, France, Italy, Spain, and Latin America. Their efforts have helped build a global research network, and their website states that “94.3% of every dollar donated goes directly to support critical research.” FAST has not only advanced the science but set the research agenda for AS. AS has already been cured in multiple ways in mouse models, and FAST’s therapeutic pipeline demonstrates their tremendous progress. How Can You Help?

Since its inception, FAST has raised over $20 million to fund research—thanks to a passionate and generous community. The fastest way to support the mission is to donate online. Contributions can also be mailed by check or money order to the address listed on their website.
You can also multiply your impact through the Corporate Matching Gift Program. Many employers match donations dollar for dollar—or more. For example, Johnson & Johnson matches 2-to-1, and Grainger matches 3-to-1.
If a financial contribution isn’t possible, you can still make a difference by raising awareness. Share FAST’s mission on social media, talk to friends and family, or help educate your community. And don’t forget: International Angelman Day is February 15—a perfect opportunity to spread the word.
